Being Fit Over 50

When does your Metabolism slow down?

Posted by in Fitness, Fun, Health, Motivation

I think it varies with each individual. For me I have to say my metabolism seemed to sit at a high pace for a long long time. It was not until my later 30’s or even my early 40’s that I found I could no longer eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and not gain a pound. Those were the good old days. I read an interesting article that actually explained your metabolism and compared it to a furnace. It said that the faster your metabolism is the better…read more

What helps you when you’re sore?

Posted by in Fitness, Health, Motivation

I seem to be waking up everyday with more aches and pains than ever before. How can that be I ask myself? I am eating right, getting enough sleep and exercising and stretching like I should. Then why is it I don’t wake up with a renewed energy and feeling great? I guess I am not thirty anymore. Or even forty for that matter. I hate to say it but I think my age has something to do with it. Yes it is just a number but it also means…read more

Get Moving! It’s really just that simple

Posted by in Fitness, Fun, Health, Motivation

As I’m sitting in my office looking out that window at the snow falling and the squirrel perched up on the tree eating nuts, I think about how easy it would be to just stay in my pajamas and sip my hot coffee and just work on the computer all day. A luxury I might add that I could have since I work out of the house. It’s cold out and grey out and very uninviting. I know I’ve said it before. But the truth is sometimes it just takes…read more

No Resolutions for 2014 – Just Solutions!

Posted by in Fitness, Happiness, Harmony, Health, Motivation

With 2014 upon us and everyone always making resolutions, I find myself asking the same question. Do I need a resolution? It seems most people fail when they make a resolution and then they feel bad and guilty that they did not fulfill the resolution. So for 2014 I am going for solutions. Solutions to the ailments I am having from being over 50. Solutions to the way I will treat people whether they are nice to me or not. Solutions to make my life richer (not in the materialistic…read more

I Love Food!

Posted by in Fitness, Food, Health

Yes I have always been a lover of food. Or as my Dad used to say I was a “good eater”. What that really meant was I could eat like a man. I would go head to head with anyone at any time and be able to eat as much as they could. Mind you I thought that was okay and normal. And well it was until I was in my later 30’s and all of a sudden I was getting a little muffin. Not really a muffin top but…read more

This is a Lifestyle – NOT a diet

Posted by in Fitness, Food, Health, Motivation

Over the years I have been hearing people say “what crazy diet are you on now” or “you are always on some kind of diet”. Well let me set the record straight. I have never been and will never be on any kind of diet. In fact I probably eat more than the average person. My husband used to always comment that we did not need to share everything exactly because he weighed 210 and I weighed 115. Well why not?? I always thought it should be fair and I…read more

Are ABS really made in the kitchen?

Posted by in Fitness, Food, Motivation

Well if you ask me I would say “ABsolutely”. It’s funny because that is an expression used often. “Abs are made in the kitchen”. NOT in the gym.  Now I am not saying your time spent in the gym is not important or necessary for your overall training to reach your potential or get the physique you are striving for. The truth is we all have abs (abdominal muscles). They are just hidden sometimes underneath that layer of stuff we like to call fat. Clean eating is the only way…read more

Stretching – is it overrated?

Posted by in Fitness, Motivation

That has always been a question I have pondered. Most of the time when I would get to the gym I was on a time frame and had to get my workout done. I would go directly to the weight racks and start lifting. Of course I always was pretty strong so I would grab the biggest bad boy weights I could just to impress myself or anyone that might be watching. I was not going to be the weak girl in the gym.  Mind you this was back in…read more

So much to be Grateful for…

Posted by in Fitness, Motivation

One thing I am learning with blogging is I am able to reflect back to a simpler time in my life when things were not so hectic and fast paced.  My Mother was a perfect of example. She never ever drove a car. Yup that’s right!! She rode her bike all over town and to work or walked to anywhere she needed to go. She never had a washer and dryer. She would load up our clothes in a clothes basket and put them in a wagon and wheel them…read more

What do I want to be when I grow up?

Posted by in Fitness, Food, Motivation

Funny that at the age of 53 I am finally starting to get an idea of what that might be. Or maybe I’m just telling myself that. Call me a later bloomer, but it is what it is. After being in the corporate world for over 30 years and counting I have started on a new path that has been a long time coming. My dad always used to say to me, “you should be a doctor or you should be a lawyer”. I would laugh and think to myself,…read more
