Being Fit Over 50

What makes a Salad healthy?

Posted by in Fitness, Food, Fun, Happiness, Health

The reason I am writing about this is because there are so many people out there that are eating salads thinking they are healthy and really have no idea what’s in them and what nutritional value they hold, if any. I eat salads almost every day but now I know what should and should not be in them. Get rid of the Iceberg lettuce (pretty much worthless when it comes to nutritional value) and 90% water. I am not saying it has no vitamins but it sure doesn’t carry the…read more

Yes you should be eating Ginger

Posted by in Happiness, Harmony, Health

You may or may not know it but for months I suffered from severe Vertigo. Yes after some eye surgery for some reason I woke up in the middle of the night spinning and sweating. Spinning from the Vertigo and sweating from the panic attack that was setting in. What the hell was going on I thought? My first thought was “oh no they made a mistake on my surgery” and I immediately called the surgeon who had done that eye surgery (since it literally happened 7 hours after the…read more

Supplements for women over 50?

Posted by in Fitness, Happiness, Health

I’m going to share with you what I do. Not that I am an expert or a nutritionist. But I do live a healthy lifestyle and get asked all the time what do you eat? What supplements do you take? How do you stay so young? Well that last statement is debatable at best. I appreciate the compliment, but like the rest of you over 50 there are days I just don’t feel so young. Now I guess it’s all in how you look at it. Because I can imagine…read more

Put down the phone please

Posted by in Happiness, Harmony, Health, Love

Yes I am talking to you. But I am also talking to myself (as sad as that is, it is true). I became acutely aware of it a year ago or so at a family function. With my husband’s family it was more prevalent than ever. I am guessing because of the size of his family it made a bigger impact than usual. We had all sat down for dinner and of course there were numerous phones on the dinner table. Then after dinner I noticed instead of the kids…read more

Strength training at 40 and 50, or 60 for that matter!

Posted by in Fitness, Fun, Happiness, Harmony, Health, Motivation

So many people are under the misconception that you should not be strength training when you get older. That theory is absolutely ridiculous and I’m here to squash any of that so called thinking. In fact one of best examples out there is a women who didn’t even start training until well into her 50’s. She knows just as I do that age is just a number, and she is now in the best shape of her life. You are never too old to start getting stronger and healthier. I…read more

Should you train differently after turning 50?

Posted by in Fitness, Fun, Happiness, Harmony, Health, Motivation

Well one word, absolutely! It wasn’t easy for me, but I have learned to modify my training. People ask me this all the time and yes of course I train differently. It’s not that I don’t train as hard as I used to, but I just train differently. This isn’t my first blog about training and I’m sure it won’t be my last. One thing I do is stretch. When I was in my 30’s and 40’s I just didn’t take the time or know how to really stretch. After…read more

Why I love my breakfast on the Weekends

Posted by in Food, Fun, Happiness, Health, Love

I have to say I love my breakfast on the weekends. Why? Because my husband cooks breakfast for me every weekend. Yes you heard that right. We get up together and enjoy a cup of coffee as we talk about what he should create and what the day will bring. I might take a few minutes to play a game of words with friends on the phone and he might take 10 minutes to scroll through boats on his phone (yes we do those things too). It’s not a perfect…read more

Comfort foods with a Healthy twist

Posted by in Food, Fun, Happiness, Health

Since I mentioned in my last blog that I have been making comfort foods with a healthy twist I thought I might share with you what that means. I am using recipes I have had for quite some time but changed some of the ingredients out. I am substituting sugar with the Stevia baking sugar (and then not even using the required amount). I am using Coconut flour instead of regular flour (this can be tricky as you don’t need to use nearly as much). Then for my dinners if…read more

Why am I feeling this way?

Posted by in Happiness, Harmony, Health, Motivation

So I’m not really sure how to start this, other than what the hell is going on with me? And I say that to you as I am not a complainer and I hate wearing my heart on my sleeve (something I very rarely do). But for some reason in the last few months I am not feeling super motivated, or for that matter I am just bored. How can that be I ask myself? I am very very busy with jobs, training, cooking and simply living. But yet I…read more

Menopause – Will exercise help?

Posted by in Fitness, Happiness, Harmony, Health, Motivation

Well I’m not even sure if I know what I am talking about. I’m sure that really makes you want to read this blog too. Well I say that because I have been without my period for about 10 months now. So I guess I am going through menopause. I have heard all the horror stories about mood swings, depression, bed sweats or just sweats in general. And then of course the dreaded lack of sexual desire (sex being painful) and weight gain. So with all that said I am…read more
